The Laois Vintage Road Run has been running for 22 years this August and since then has raised over €860,000 for Laois Hospice.

As the Run takes place this Saturday 19 August, we thought it would be a nice idea to take a trip down memory lane to the Laois Vintage Run in 2001.

This year’s Vintage Run begins from Treacy’s, the Heath, at 10am. The cars will head to Castlecomer where they will visit the Castlecomer Discovery Park and Coal Mining Museum.

The tractors are going on a more leisurely spin to Ballyfin, via Trumera, and will stop off in the Deadman’s Inn in Ballyfin for refreshments.

All vehicles will return to Treacy’s between 3pm and 4pm for a meal and presentation of commemorative plaque.

“Since it was founded in 1996 Laois Vintage Limited has raised and donated €863,244.

“This success could not have been achieved without the help our dedicated and numerous vintage enthusiasts, bucket collectors and sponsors who each year give so generously of their time and money,” said Laois Vintage Ltd chairman Ger Whelan.

Alf Harvey’s archives always through up some wonderful images and these pictures, from this weekend 16 years ago, are no different.
