Cathal Connaughton, the Oughaval AC athlete from Vicarstown, won gold in the U-17 1500m, at this morning’s Leinster Indoors Championships in Abbotstown

Held in the magnificent new Adamstown Complex, Cathal ran a blistering last lap to take gold in a fast time of 4:24.

Running in his preferred distance of 1500, Cathal was always in contention for the entire seven and a half laps.

At the bell he was in 2nd place, inches behind the leader. Rounding the last bend, he upped the pace considerably, and there was no catching him down the finishing straight.

This is Cathal’s first Leinster title.
