Cooper family and Our Duke to be honoured by Laois County Council

Robbie Power celebrates on Our Duke following their Irish Grand National success on Easter Monday

The honours and recognition keep coming for the Cooper family from Coolrain and their Irish Grand National-winning horse Our Duke.

They are to be honoured with a Cathaoirleach’s reception in Laois County Hall on Thursday, June 1.

The Cooper family and their vast range of connections will be guests of Cathaoirleach Tom Mulhall in County Hall that evening while there is also expected to be a strong representation from the wider horse racing community – with trainer Jessica Harrington, jockey Robbie Power and TV racing personality Tracey Piggott all on the invite list.

Our Duke claimed the Boyle Sports Irish Grand National on Easter Monday and there was joyous scenes in Coolrain that night when the connections returned to their home village.

Four members of the Cooper family – Sloane, Nigel, Billy, Hazel (and her husband Charles Piggott) – are in the syndicate and the horse has been tipped for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next March.
