Moment in Time: Cumann na mBunscol hurling and camogie finals in the year 2000

This Thursday and Friday sees the 2017 Laois Cumann na mBunscol finals take place in O’Moore Park.

For many young players it’s their first time to play in our county grounds, one of the first times for a report to appear in the paper. It’s a big day and a standout childhood memory for those lucky enough to make it.

When the fixture list for this year’s deciders dropped into our inbox we said we’d take another trip down memory lane. We searched Alf Harvey’s wonderful archives and once again they delivered in spades.

We could have picked out any year but we settled on 2000. Here are some of the images from that year. O’Moore Park had yet to be redeveloped but it was the last year for that old stand, the concrete seats and that area at the Abbeyleix end where the prefab offices were situated.

We can pick out some future county players but in order not to leave anyone out who we can’t recognise, we’ve decided not to name names.

We hope you enjoy this little trip back in time.
