Investigation into assault of Clonaslee woman

An investigation is continuing into the assault of a woman in Clonaslee which resulted in her being hospitalised with facial injuries.

At approximately 1.20am on the morning of Sunday, June 4, gardaí received a report of a man and a woman fighting at the junction of the Tullamore Road in Clonaslee.

Arising from the incident, the woman was taken to hospital with hand and facial injuries.

The injured woman spent two days in hospital, although this is believed to have been a precaution due to the facial injury she suffered, a local garda spokesperson confirmed.

Both the woman and the man are in their 30s and live in the local area.

Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry into the assault. However, they are seeking assistance from the public and anyone with information can contact Mountmellick Garda Station on 05786 24140.

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a youth was assaulted by two men in Arles village.

The injured party, a male in his late teens, was assaulted by the men at 1am on Saturday, June 3.

His injuries were minor and he did not have to go to hospital.

Anyone with any information on this incident should call Portlaoise Garda Station on 05786 74100.
