Laois athlete to represent Leinster at Tailteann games

Eoin Keenan will represent Leinster at the Tailteann games this weekend

Eoin Keenan is having a roller coaster season in Track & Field Athletics this year. The sixteen year old 6’3” Emo Rath Athlete set a new PB of 1.85m in the high jump at the Leinster Schools T&F recently.

Last weekend he was joint gold medal winner in the Leinster U\18 High Jump. He also set a new PB of 6.13m in the Long Jump at the same competition, securing the silver medal position in the process.

Next weekend Eoin, a Student at St Mary’s CBS Portlaoise,  will compete in the High Jump event at Morton Stadium, Santry, having been selected on the Leinster Team to compete in the Tailteann Games.

This is a great honour for Eoin, and just reward for a hard winter’s training. The Tailteann Games is an inter-provincial competition for athletes that have excelled in their provincial Schools competitions.

Eoin is a member of Emo Rath Athletic Club. He trains on Sundays  and Wednesdays with the Laois Sprints Squad. Wednesday sessions involve strength training. This is geared specifically to his events.

This year, along with other members of the squad, he has been introduced to Olympic Weight Lifting and the results are beginning to show. He also trains on Friday’s (technical session) and on Mondays he assists with coaching the younger athletes in his Club.
