Impressive start for Laois U-16 camogie team

All Ireland U-16 Camogie Championship

Laois travelled to Clonkill to play Westmeath in the first of their All Ireland games of the series. Along with Westmeath in their group they will face Dublin, who they beat in the Leinster final in May, and Cork.

Laois played the first half with a strong wind. Laois forwards were on target from the throw in with two points each from Alannah Tynan and Aine Cuddy from play. Kirsten Keenan pointed from play and converted a free and 45 before Aine Cuddy got a brilliant

Laois had to hold off Westmeath who had the wind in the second half. Westmeath struggled to convert scores which was credited to the Laois backline. They held their lines well and worked well as a team to stop Westmeath from adding to many scores to their score line.

Alannah Tynan added another point from play to her tally along with three from Kirsten Keenan. Eimear Fitzpatrick put one in the back of the net before Kirsten Keenan added a goal to bring her personal tally to 1-8 for the day.

Laois play Dublin this Sunday at home.
