In pictures: Dunamase College opens its doors for the first time

Dunamase College has opened its doors to students for the very first time this morning.

Principle Aoife Elster reckons that it is the first time in 100 years that a new secondary school has opened in Laois.

Located in the centre of Portlaoise town, the school will be strongly technology focused and is opening in a newly refurbished building on Railway Street.

This will be a temporary location for the next number of years until a permanent location is secured by the Department of Education.

A number of sites in Portlaoise are currently being looked at.

40 students came through the door this morning and come from Laois in Kildare.

They have been split into two classes where students can study through mainstream English and through Irish in aonad lán Ghaeilge.
