In Pictures: Smiles all round as new school year gets underway in Rath NS

The students and staff of Rath National School gave the LaoisToday team the biggest welcome on Friday morning.

School Principal Ann Garry brought our photographer and past pupil on a trip down memory lane by bringing us around the school which has been expanding in numbers for over the past 10 years.

Rath NS, once a very small rural school, is growing rapidly with over 218 pupils now attending.  The staff of Rath NS consists of 15 teachers, eight special needs assistants, five bus drivers, two cleaners, and one secretary.

The School has gone through huge extensions throughout the past few years, and with plans to expand again.

This September the school welcomed 28 new Junior Infants, and the students were more than delighted to pose for the camera.

“They are all a fantastic group of students,” said Mrs Garry who has been principal to the school for the past six years.

All of the students of Rath NS were full of enthusiasm and there was a great atmosphere to be back for the school year.
