Good news for a young Ballylinan man ahead of tomorrow's final

Ballylinan have been given a serious boost ahead of Sunday’s county final meeting with Portlaoise.

One of their brightest young talents has been cleared to play after having a red card, picked up in the semi-final win over Portarlington, rescinded.

Kevin Byrne, who has featured in our Team of the Week on more than one occasion, was sent off late on two weeks’ ago.

Referee Eddie Kinsella dismissed him after he became involved in an off the ball incident with Steven Lyons.

It seemed certain that the 18-year-old corner back would miss out on the opportunity to play in the club’s first County Final since 1987.

However, LaoisToday understands that following an appeal, Kevin Byrne has had that red card rescinded and will be able to take his place in the full back line tomorrow afternoon.

And he will be hoping to help his team avenge the defeat from 30 years ago against Portlaoise.

Ballylinan will also be trying to win the Jack Delaney Cup for the very first time.
