Fears ‘dreadful’ Rathdowney road will damage cars

Laois County Council could be hit for costs to damage of cars, Cllr John King has warned.

He gave the warning at the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal Authority meeting.

A motion before the meeting from Cllr John King sought an update on funding that was requested by him to repair the “badly damaged road” outside the Card Stand Shop in The Square, Rathdowney.

He said the road was left like this following sewerage works in the town. “This road was left in a dreadful state,”

Senior engineer Paul McLoughlin said the area office assessed the reinstatement works following on from this contract.

“As a result the section of road outside the Card Stand has been prioritised for reinstatement,” he said.

“Works will be undertaken following the completion of the procurement process and when the weather conditions are suitable to facilitate same,” Mr McLoughlin said.

Cars could be damaged due to the condition of the road, Cllr King said.

“Hopefully it will be done before Christmas,” he said.
