Hospital vigil for Portlaoise men injured in air crash

Two Portlaoise men are recovering in hospital following an air accident in the Czech Republic yesterday.

Both Ger Doody and fellow Laois man Ned McEvoy were injured in the air accident yesterday.

Both received extensive injuries, but Mr Doody’s are believed to be the more serious of the two.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, however.

They were treated at a hospital within an hour of the Czech Republic capital, Prague.

Family members are known to have flown to be with the men earlier this morning.

“Mr Doody and Mr McEvoy are in the thoughts and prayers of Monsignor Byrne PP, the local clergy and the entire parish community,” Fr Paddy Byrne CC said.

Both men are well-known in Portlaoise and the wider aviation community across the country.

Mr Doody is a popular and highly-regarded salesman with Downey’s Auto Stop on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise.

They are also directors of Portlaoise based company,Ridge Aviation + Leisure Co, Eyne Airfield, Ridge Road in the town.

The company is the Irish agent for the Evektor Aerotechnik EV-97 Eurostar 450kg Microlight/Ultralight and the VLA Sportstar together with the Czech Aircraft Works 600kg S-LSA Sportcruiser all metal aircraft.

They are also Irish agents for the range of Woodcomp premium Propellers.

There has been an outpouring of support and well-wishes from the local community for the popular local men
