Mountrath bookies broken into; horse rugs stolen in Portlaoise

Gardai are appealing for information following a break-in at a bookies shop in Mountrath in the early hours of this morning as well as an incident in Portlaoise which saw a number of blankets stolen off the backs of horses.

A sum of money was stolen from Harrington’s Bookies on Main Street in Mountrath after intruders broke into the premises at approximately 4.30am.

Elsewhere, six horse rugs were stolen from horses at about 7.30pm yesterday evening.

According to Gardai they were removed from the horses’ backs from a field beside the Portlaoise Equestrian Centre on the Timahoe Road.

Anybody with information in relation to either case is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.

Meanwhile, in Tullamore, Garfai have arrested and detained a man after a fire in a home in Arden View in the town on Wednesday night at about 11am.

It appears that some type of excelerant was thrown at the house which was occupied at the time. It’s understood three people were in the house at the time of the incident.
