Garda warning following increase in burglaries at night

Gardaí are issued a warning following an increase in burglaries late at night across the country.

Laois Crime Prevention Officer Graham Kavanagh is calling on garage owners to contact the Gardaí before turning off alarms which go off late at night.

He said: “We advise key holders or garage owners to contact An Garda Síochána before attending alarm activations at night in light of burglaries that have occurred elsewhere around the Country during night time hours.

“This is to ensure safety and security of owner/keyholder and ensure premises are secure.”

The warning comes a few days after Gardaí in Mountmellick made a massive seizure of stolen tools.

The Gardai stopped a van and trailer in Irishtown in Mountmellick at 5am and discovered a massive selection of power tools.

The recovery included drills, strimmers, consaws and chainsaws among other items.

Gardai have released images of what they recovered and are asking anyone who recognises any of the property to contact laoisoffaly.crimeprevention@garda.ie.
