Fr Paddy’s ‘All Will Be Well’ set to be a bestseller

A new book by popular Portlaoise curate Fr Paddy Byrne is set to be a best-seller with keen interest in his first book.

It is understood that thousand of editions of the book have already been pre-sold as the book officially goes on sale today (Monday).

‘All Will Be Well’ is “a little bit autobiographical” Fr Paddy explained.

He said it references many of the issues he has encountered in his ministry.

While the book has a tone of hope, Fr Paddy said it also tackles issues such as homelessness, mental health resources and the direct provision system for refugees.

The publishers, Columba Press note that Fr Paddy has become one of Ireland’s top advocates for the model of mercy espoused by Pope Francis.

Tweeter

“Known as a prodigious tweeter, blogger and social justice campaigner, Fr Byrne has long been outspoken in his progressive views about how the Church hierarchy should become a more radical voice in Irish society.

“In his first book he draws on his years of parish ministry and pastoral care to outline the challenges we face, while offering hope and inspiration through reflections, stories, parables and prayers to help readers to overcome life’s obstacles and lead them towards what he sees as a positive future,” the publisher states.

“There are a lot of anecdotes that I have gathered over the last 17 years in the priesthood,” he said.

He added that his parishioners will have nothing to fear on what’s in the book.

Honest

“It is a very honest book. There is a little vulnerability in there. It includes my own family context and is quite a personal book,” he said.

Fr Paddy explained when you write a book like this, “you are putting yourself out there”.

“This book is about embracing your vulnerability. In the world we live in, there is very little tolerance for mistakes and vulnerability,” Fr Paddy said.

“It’s a collection of my 43 years of wisdom on this earth,” he joked.

Challenge

Writing a book was a different experience and new challenge for Fr Paddy who writes a weekly column for a number of publications, including LaoisToday.

“It took me a bit of time as I lack discipline,” he said.

At the time of his ordination in 2001, Fr Paddy became the youngest priest in the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin.

His first appointment was to Newbridge parish in Co. Kildare and he also served in Bagnelstown in Co. Carlow.
