Derelict Borris-in-Ossory courthouse to get makeover

The old Borris-in-Ossory courthouse is get a makeover, including protection works.

At the recent Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal Authority meeting the issue was raised by Cllr James Kelly, who said he understood it was earmarked for work.

The meeting heard that funding has been allocated for the work on the building in 2018.

Director of services Donal Brennan confirmed that renovation work will be carried out next year.

The building looks “shocking” Cllr Kelly said.

“It needs to be painted,” he said.

A survey will be carried out on what work is needed, Mr Brennan said.

“Then protection work will be done,” he said.

In response to the suggestion to have it painted, he replied – “we will do it all as a package”.

Windows

It is expected that the building will get new windows.

They are currently boarded up.

The building has been idle for a number of years.
