A young woman from Portarlington has been named Para Swimmer of the Year for 2017.
Nicole Turner, who is only 15-years-old, is a rising star of the swimming world having already competed in the Paralympics.
The young Portarlington swimmer represented Ireland in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Aged only 14 at the time, she qualified for an amazing five finals in Brazil and has followed that up by claiming bronze in the Para Swimming World Series in Sheffield recently in the 50-metre butterfly.
She has gone on to enjoy success at the World Paralympic Swimming Series this year.
With the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020 on the horizon she is now training six times a week in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.
It caps a brilliant couple of days for Turner who was also announced as a brand ambassador for Toyota.
Toyota has announced brand ambassador deals with leading Paralympic athletes; Jason Smyth, Patrick Monahan, Noelle Lenihan, Ellen Keane and Nicole Turner who will play a central role in Toyota’s global “Start Your Impossible” campaign.
The campaign, which marks Toyota’s first ever global ad campaign, centres on the aspiration of movement for all, in support of Toyota’s eight-year global commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The first film in the campaign, which was revealed last week, profiles 100 real-life mobility stories featuring people from every stage of life, across five different countries, including Paralympic and Olympic athletes.
