Schools and Businesses warned over threat of theft around Christmas period

Gardaí have issued a warning to all schools and businesses regard the holding of sums of cash on their property coming into the Christmas Period.

Crime Prevention Officer for Laois and Offaly, Sergt Graham Kavanagh has advised that any schools and small businesses holding high levels of cash should deposit it in financial institutions and not run the risk of theft.

With the increased number of fundraising going on across the schools with Christmas shows and raffles, schools in particular can fall victim to theft.

School shows and raffles will be advertised and this will highlight targets for the thieves, making schools extremely vulnerable to robbery.

Small business owners have also been warned to lodge any cash they hold.

The increased spending around the Christmas period will always attract thieves to strike so the Gardaí are urging business owners, small and large, to not take chance.

This warning comes off the back of a increase in theft around the county, and Gardaí are hoping that peoples Christmas’ are not ruined by those thieving.
