Basketball – Men’s National League Division 1

Portlaoise Panthers faced a second agonising loss to Ballincollig this week as they made another trip down to play the Cork side.

The Panthers lost out 83-66 last weekend in the Senior Men’s Hula Hoops Cup Quarter Final and faced them again today in the Men’s National League Division 1.

Jimmy Ward’s charges started off well and kept up with Ballincollig for the first 20 minutes.

The score was 45-42 by the end of the second quarter.

But the Cork ide pulled out all the stops and ended up winning convincingly on a scoreline of 95-67 at the end of the fourth quarter.

The Panthers are certainly in for a busy weekend as they take on the Ulster University Elks in St Mary’s Hall tomorrow.

Ballincollig have gone from second place to top of the table after today’s win.

The Panthers are down further in the league and will need a win tomorrow to make the weekend worthwhile.
