It’s still not 2018, but our first live blog of the new season is here.

Today, John Sugrue’s Laois senior footballers and Eamonn Kelly’s hurlers will play their first competitive games.

Both teams have named experimental sides for their opening round games.

Sugrue’s side travel to Mullingar to face Westmeath in the first of back-to-back games against the Lake County.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s men are in Hawkfield to take on the Kildare hurlers where they will be overwhelming favourites to win.

And LaoisToday will be in both venues where we will provide you with live updates on both games.
