That was My Year: Maeve Dunne on leaving Australia, being crowned Laois Rose and looking ahead to 2018

In this segment of ‘That was My Year’, LaoisToday sat down with current Laois Rose Maeve Dunne to talk everything past, present and future.

Maeve has certainly had a jam-packed year. From moving home from Australia, to being crowned Laois Rose to becoming an Events Executive at Croke Park, she has already earned many achievements in 2017 alone.

In the year ahead Maeve is hoping to travel more and maybe even attend a certain royal wedding.

2017

1 – What was your personal highlight of 2017?

It’s definitely tough to pick just one personal highlight as I’ve been very fortunate to have had a year that was filled with many. To pick just one however – it would have to be being chosen as the Laois Rose.

2 – Anything you would like to change from 2017?

I can’t think of anything major that I would like to change from 2017. I try not to dwell too much on should have, would have, could have.

3 – Favourite moment of 2017 (apart from own personal activity)

The Cold Play – A Head Full of Dreams – concert in Croke Park was pretty up there

4 – Worst moment of 2017?

Moving home from Australia was pretty sad but I guess it further proves the point that everything happens for a reason.

5 – Best learning experience from 2017?

You can’t please everyone.

The future

1 – What would be the one thing you would like to change in 2018?

My cooking skills. I’m shocking in the kitchen but have a tendency to visit the cupboards in the middle of the night. So I’m making a conscious effort to eat properly next year.

2 – If you could attend any event in 2018 what would it be?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

3 – What would you like to achieve in 2018?

I want to travel to 30 countries before I turn 30 (30 before 30) so I hope to tick off another couple of countries over the next 12 months.

4 – Where do you hope to see yourself at the end of 2018?

Cliched and all as it sounds but happy and healthy.

5 – What would be your own personal motto to see you through 2018?

What’s meant to be will always find its way.
