A star-studded line up will be on hand to officially launch the Laois GAA Strategic Review.

The report is believed to address the issue of Coaching and Games in Laois, the growing population in Portlaoise, the future of rural clubs and the continued development of O’Moore Park and the new Laois GAA Training Centre.

The independent committee met a number of times from August to December as well as engaging with every club in the county – by way of a questionnaire and a visit to each club.

The launch will entail addresses from a number of speakers including Gerry Kavanagh, Peter O’Neill, Jim Bolger (Leinster Chairman), Louise Phelan (Paypal), John Horan and Nickey Brennan.

County Secretary Niall Handy said: “I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you all our Clubs and Members for their co-operation in the entire review process, which I believe to be the most extensive and thorough review of the Association in our county to date.

“It is said by only knowing the true extent of any weaknesses within our structures can we hope to find a solution to address such shortcomings.

“The Strategy and Action Plan will provide the direction in which our Association should be moving.

“I would stress that implementing the recommendations in this plan will be the responsibility of every GAA stakeholder in Laois and will be especially relevant to our clubs, as ultimately it is your commitment or otherwise which will determine whether the Report’s recommendations are successfully implemented and prepare us to be ready to face whatever challenges emerge in future years.

“Light refreshments will be served after launch.”
