Laois footballers and hurlers name captains for season ahead

Ross King and Stephen Attride have been named as captains for the Laois footballers and hurlers

It will be a case of more of the same for the Laois footballers and hurlers in 2018 as the respective management have decided to retain the same players from 2017 to fill the roles.

John Sugrue has once again turned to Killeshin’s Stephen Attride to lead the footballers.

Attride, who is a teacher in Knockbeg College, has played for Laois since 2013.

Sugrue has also chosen to appoint vice captains to Attride. Portlaoise keeper Graham Brody and St Brigids’ midfielder John O’Loughlin will assist him.

While there is also no change for the hurlers as manager Eamonn Kelly has kept faith with Rathdowney-Errill’s Ross King.

Shanahoe’s Leigh Bergin and Borris-Kilcotton’s Neil Foyle will act as King’s deputies.

Both of the teams are set to begin their National League campaigns next weekend.

The footballers are up first on Saturday January 27 at home to Limerick in Division 4.

While the following day, the hurlers are away to Limerick in Division 1B.
