It is an extremely busy day in the sporting world and we will do our best to keep you up to date.

Along with an extremely hectic schedule in the local soccer leagues, there is also rugby, hurling and ladies football action.

Two of these games begin at 2pm. Steven Miller will be in Mountmellick where Kevin Doogue’s Laois Ladies begin their Division 2 league campaign.

They are up against the side that knocked them out of last year’s championship – Cavan – and this looks like it will be a tricky tie.

At the same time, Eamonn Kelly’s Laois hurlers face the daunting prospect of Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds.

Laois are already under pressure to remain in Division 1B following Offaly’s win over Dublin last night and they will be hoping to put in a performance they can build upon for the coming rounds.

And then at 2.30pm, Seán Hennessy will be in Togher for the Towns Cup.

Here, Portlaoise will hope to put a difficult season behind them and score a big win over Navan.
