Progress being made on new school in Portlaoise

Work on the new St Francis special school in Portlaoise is expected to begin before the end of June this year, following an announcement by Laois TD Charlie Flanagan.

St Francis school has been based on the Timahoe Road for a long number of years but is set to move to the site of the old St Paul’s CBS on the Borris Road – which has been vacant since the new Holy Family School opened in Aughanara last September.

Following a visit to St Francis Special School, Portlaoise today, Charlie Flanagan TD, Minister for Justice & Equality has confirmed that tender documents for the building of the new school on the site of the former St Pauls Primary School is progressing satisfactorily.

“Tender documents are currently being prepared after which the project will proceed to construction.

“It is expected that the building of the new school will start before the end of June.

“This is further good news for Education in County Laois.”

Minister Flanagan said that he is delighted that the pupils with special needs and their loved ones will have a modern state of the art school in which to learn and have their education.
