It’s not that often that the All Ireland hurling champions come to town – but that’s the case in O’Moore Park this evening with Galway here to take on Laois in Round 2 of the Allianz Hurling League.

The Tribesmen famously got their hands on the Liam MacCarthy Cup last September for the first time in 29 years and they have spent the winter joyously celebrating their fine achievement.

Tonight, eight of that team line out here against Laois. They are, as you’d imagine, the hottest of favourites to see off the home side.

When they met in Galway last year, Laois were blown out of the water early on.

But Eamon Kelly’s side competed well enough for long spells against Limerick last Sunday in the opening round of this competition and they’ll be hoping to build on that performance here.

Galway were to the pin of their collar in seeing off an incredibly spirited Antrim side so they will be looking for clear improvement especially given that their next three games are against Wexford, Offaly and Dublin – namely the perceived three stronger sides in the division.

For Laois, coming off the back of defeats to Limerick in the league and Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup, they will be glad to see the back of the opening two rounds – Antrim and Offaly are their must-win clashes.

We’ll be live blogging the game here on site for the 70 minutes – and we’ll have updates on our Snapchat account as well.

So stay in touch! And let us know where in the world you are following the action from!
