Yarnboming Mountmellick pulled off an amazing feat and scooped two top prizes at this year’s Epic Awards last night, Thursday 3 May.

The Epic Awards are for voluntary UK and Irish arts groups and the Mountmellick group managed to come away with the Peoples’ Choice and the National Award of Ireland.

Speaking at the event, member Nina Horan said: “We’re just a small town in the middle who on Ireland’s Ancient East & the Wild Atlantic Way. So hearing Mountmellick even mentioned here today is a joy.”

The awards took place at Richmond Barracks, Dublin and the ladies certainly made the most of the day out.

The Yarnbombers are well-known for the cascading the town of Mountmellick in brightly-coloured knitted and crochet creations.

In a year where Mountmellick has gone through so much hardship with flooding and trying to rebuild, it’s great to see this group get the recognition they deserve for their work in promoting in town.

Keep up the good work!
