Concerns outlined after fall on paving near library

The cobble block paving is causing major concern for locals at Abbeyleix Library with a person falling on it last week.

The concerns were outlined by Cllr John Joe Fennelly at the monthly meeting of Laois County Council.

He said the uneven nature of the paving is creating a danger for people.

“Some of it was ground down, but it hasn’t worked,” Cllr Fennelly said.

He said the digital information board in the library hasn’t been working and he hoped funding could be provided for it. “It hasn’t been working for a number of years,” he said.

Cllr Mary Sweeney, who works in Portlaoise Library, said she agreed completely with the comments about the paving near the library.

“It’s an absolute nightmare. Since it was put down, it has been causing chaos,” she said.
