Terrific Tom fires Killanure to Roinn 2 Shield glory

Killanure NS

Killanure 4-14 Knock 3-6

Hurling Roinn 2 Shield Final

A tremendous display from midfielder Tom Cuddy was the difference for Killanure as they claimed Roinn 2 Shield glory this afternoon.

He finished with a staggering tally of 2-10 as they saw off Knock NS in a very entertaining affair.

In a simply enthralling first half, Knock made a blistering start as Darragh Cahill goaled with their first attack.

Killanure’s response was emphatic though and they went three points clear by the eight minute. Tom Cuddy sent over two long range points before Asthon Keenan levelled matters.

They then went ahead when a clearance came to Tom Cuddy and he blasted the ball to the net from close range.

Carlos Fitzpatrick and Callum Costigan reduced the deficit to one at the midpoint of the half but two more Tom Cuddy points pushed Killanure on again.

However, two goals in a minute swung the game back Knock’s way. Bill McGrath got the first before Darragh Cahill got his second and Carlos Fitzpatrick added a free to move Knock 3-3 to 1-5 ahead.

But Killanure had a brilliant end to the half and that set the platform for their victory.

Brian Hogan got their second goal while Tom Cuddy and Ashton Keenan added a point each. Knock almost had a goal with the final play of the half as Callum Costigan got through but his shot hit the post and Conor Deegan got back to clear the sliotar off the line and leave Killanure ahead 2-7 to 3-3 at the break.

Killanure and Tom Cuddy set about putting this one to bed quickly in the second half.

He fired over two points and while Carlos Fitzpatrick replied for Knock, Cuddy hit two more either side of his second goal to move Killanure seven clear with ten to play.

Knock went in search of goals but it was Killanure who got another through Brian Hogan and then a point from Ashton Keenan.

Knock never gave up as Carlos Fitzpatrick and Cahir Costigan fired over points but Killanure were not to be denied.

Brian Hogan got another point and the final score came from the incredible Tom Cuddy.
