There was a number of league hurling and football games down for decision in Laois on Thursday night.

In ACHL Division 2, neighbours Castletown and Slieve Bloom met, with the game ending in a 1-14 apiece draw. It’s the first time for Slieve Bloom to drop points in this campaign following three earlier wins but it nudges them ahead of Clough-Ballacolla and into outright first position.

There was also a busy schedule of games in Division 2 football, where Kilcavan got the better of Timahoe, Courtwood beat Graiguecullen and Park-Ratheniska and St Joseph’s drew. O’Dempsey’s gave Clonaslee a walkover while the game between Ballyfin and Annanough has been re-fixed for this Saturday.

The results mean that Courtwood return to top spot with St Joseph’s dropping to second and Park-Ratheniska moving up to third.

At the other end of the table it remains extremely tight – and it looks like being a serious battle to see who avoids relegation, even with four games still to play for most sides.

Graiguecullen are bottom with two points – with O’Dempsey’s, Ballyfin, Clonaslee, Annanough and Kilcavan all on four.
