Wins for The Heath, O’Dempsey’s, St Joseph’s and 13-man Portarlington in Division 1A

A big win for Portarlington

We had a full round of fixtures in the ACFL Division 1 tonight and here is how they went:

Stradbally 1-11 Portarlington 1-16

13-man Portarlington ended Stradbally’s winning run in Bill Delaney Park tonight.

This game began at a frantic pace. David Condron gave Portarlington the lead but Colm Kelly replied with a brace for Stradbally.

But Portarlington re-took the lead by the seventh minute. Jason award kicked a free and then turned his man beautifully before burying the ball in the bottom corner.

However the home side then got on top and moved three clear by the midpoint of the half.

Justin Lalor scored a lovely goal and then followed that with a point while wing back Colin Beale also popped up with two to make it 1-5 to 1-2.

David Condron and Colm Kelly swapped points before Stradbally lost Darren Maher to a hamstring injury and Portarlington kicked the next five points to go ahead.

Evan Lyons, Condron and Jordan Fitzpatrick all pointed as Port went two clear.

Stradbally were then awarded a penalty when Colm Kelly was fouled. He blazed his shot over the bar though while a late Eoin Buggie point sent us in level 1-9 apiece at the break.

Portarlington made a good start to the second half with points from Steven Lyons and Condron but they were reduced to 14 men after 38 minutes after Hayden Weldon was shown a straight red card after striking Liam Knowles.

Portarlington kept scoring though with David Murphy landing a brace before Jordan Fitzpatrick made it 1-14 to 1-9 with 15 minutes to go.

Jack Deegan scored Stradbally’s first point of the second half and Portarlington were then reduced to 13 men after 49 minutes when Steven Lyons was shown a black card and then a referee Eddie Kinsella.

David Murphy got two more frees for Portarlington before a Colm Kelly free left five in it with three minutes to play.

Kelly got another for Stradbally but David Murphy
