A range of events were held to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg, a national day for children, on Saturday last.

Such events included art workshops, cupcake making, hair braiding, music and dance shows in both Fitzmaurice Place and the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

Generation Laois hosted a, ‘try an instrument event’, and a Drumming Circle with Eddie O’Neill, which was open to all ages in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

A rap workshop also took place in the Dunamaise Arts Centre for ages 10 and upwards.

All events were free of charge – on a first come first serve basis.

Cruinniú na nÓg coincided with The Old Fort Quarter Festival in Portlaoise.

Music Generation Laois presented a performance by members of the Irish music extraordinaires the Rusangano Family, who performed on the main Gig Rig.

All Cruinniú na nÓg events were programmed by the Arts Office of Laois County Council and funded by Creative Ireland.
