The curtain closes on the ladies football championships as the junior, intermediate and senior finals all take place today, Saturday, September 8.
For the first time in a number of years, the Ladies football finals will take place in O’Moore Park this year.
Ballyfin and St Paul’s kickoff proceedings in the JFC at 3pm. In the IFC final, Shanahoe will meet Graiguecullen at 5pm and Sarsfields and Portlaoise will meet for the third year in a row at 7.15pm.
We’ve been looking forward to the encounters this week – and discussed previews of each game over on our LaoisToday GAA podcast.
A look at each final clash
Both St Paul’s and Ballyfin had convincing wins in their semi-finals to reach the junior finale this Saturday.
With St Paul’s forces containing star players such as Laois Ladies full forward Emma Lawlor in their arsenal, this will certainly make for a skillful display to kick off the day’s proceedings.
The Intermediate grade contained just four teams – Shanahoe, Ballyroan, Graigucullen and St Joseph’s – and they played each other once before all advancing to the semi finals.
Shanahoe will now play the undefeated Graiguecullen side at 5pm this Saturday but we feel Shanahoe’s experience may help them overturn the earlier season defeat.
This will be the third year in a row that Sarsfields and Portlaoise will meet in the senior final and we are expecting a cracker.
Sarsfields finished off Portlaoise early-doors last year but who knows what tomorrow will hold.
