Timahoe to mark 1,100th Anniversary of massive Viking raid

Planning has begun to remember the 1,100th annual anniversary of the Viking raid and invasion of Timahoe village.

A meeting took place in the Heritage Centre to find out if people were interested in marking the occasion.

Another exciting festival

The majority felt that a festival should take place to remember the anniversary.

A committee was formed comprised of Mary O’Dwyer as chairperson, Roghan Headen as secretary, Sinead Bennett as treasurer and Karen Fitzpatrick as PRO.

They will make a detailed plan of events and discover where they can obtain funding.

Committee members include Margaret Buggy, Ann Farmer, Ann McDonald, Pat Duff, Ann Duff, Dolores McEvoy and Pamela Tynan.

Those in attendance, who were from various groups and organisations locally such as the Timahoe Medley Day, the Playground Committee, and the former Tidy Towns committee, agreed to work collectively to ensure the event takes place.

The committee will be called Tigh Mochua le Cheile or Timahoe Together, and will be open to all interested in maintaining the village and promoting events for Timahoe.
