Support from politicians

At the event Minister Flanagan emphasised his support for President Higgins and the importance of an energetic and active campaign in county Laois. He reminded attendees that while polls were strong for the president no vote should be taken for granted.

Councillor Tuohy spoke of the excellent work Michael D Higgins has done as President and broad support the president has amongst people in the county. He spoke of the unique situation where Michael D Higgins has the public support of the leaders of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael and he called on members of those parties to back the campaign in laois.

Gearóidín McEvoy from the Laois Together for Yes campaign spoke about a new generation of young people who are politically active and campaigning on a range of issues including the Raise the Roof housing campaign. She said Michael D Higgins has strong support among these young people, many of whom will be involved in the campaign.
