People living in ‘fear of their lives’ towards accident blackspot

One local councillor has claimed that people, ‘are living in fear of their lives’ towards an accident blackspot in Mountmellick.

The issue was raised by cllr Paddy Bracken at the latest Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district meeting.

The area in question is at a dangerous bend at Acragar, Mountmellick.

‘Pure luck no-one was killed’

“There has been numerous accidents at this location, including up to last Saturday evening,” said cllr Bracken.

“There’s a fear there that there will be a fatality there. It’s pure luck that no-one was killed. It certainly needs major safety works,” said cllr Bracken.

“It’s a cause of great concern,” he added.

In a written response, acting senior engineer Farhan Nasiem said, “Road Design personnel will examine the location and prepare a report.

“Chevrons would be required to highlight the approaching bend.”

Cllr Brendan Phelan seconded the motion for calming/safety measures at the bend.
