Roinn 2 Boys championship

Clonaghadoo brought Day 1 of the Cumann na mBunscol football finals to a close with a win over a tough The Heath outfit.

This Boys Division 2 championship final was full of goals as the Kilcavan based outfit got the most of them.

The Heath had some outstanding displays on the day too but none were better than Paddy Fitzpatrick who scored 11 points but still ended on the losing side.

Midfielder Niall Lalor opened the scoring for Clonaghadoo with a free slightly to the left of the post before Oisin Lawlor grabbed the game’s opening goal after a great pass from Joe Kirwan.

The Heath relied on the accuracy of Paddy Fitzpatrick from frees to keep them in the game but they did score a very good goal in the first half via Tony Woods too.

Nevertheless, Clonaghadoo kept scoring as Oisin Lawlor, Evin Daly and 11 year old Sean Lalor all scoring goals to make it 5-3 to 1-6 in their favour at half time.

Clonaghoadoo extended their lead on the resumption of play with points from Niall Lawlor and Evin Daly before Tony Walsh replied for The Heath.

But the ball was in The Heath’s net again when Sean Lalor got his second of the game.

Darragh Hughes added a point but The Heath came back with a long range goal from Patrick O’Callaghan. Niall Lalwor replied with a free for Clonaghadoo and they never looked back after that.

Patrick O’Callaghan and Oisin Lalor exchanged goals, Lalor’s being his hat-trick, before Sean Lalor did the same with his third goal for Clonaghadoo.

The Heath kept trying though and the lethal Tony Walsh kicked a point before Paddy Fitzpatrick landed five unanswered points to make it 8-7 to 3-13 with a couple of minutes to play.

Clonaghadoo weren’t finished though and hat-trick of goals for Aron Lawlor capped a brilliant display from the men in maroon.

Paddy O’Callaghan did score a late goal for The Heath deep in injury time but Clonaghadoo won by 13 points in the end.
