Man arrested in murder investigation of Nurney man in Athy

Gardaí investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 34 year old man that occurred on Thursday 1st November 2018.

A man in his late 20s is currently detained at Kildare Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 34-year-old David Boland after a stabbing incident in Athy earlier today.

The Nurney man was stabbed several times after a row broke out on Duke Street at 5.30am.

Mr Boland was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, where he later died.

Gardaí say that the victim’s car, a silver-coloured Audi, was taken from the scene of the attack and later found partially burned-out on Woodstock Street in Athy.

Athy Garda Station have introduced an incident room, where a conference was held by the investigating team earlier today.

Gardaí are appealing in particular to motorists and drivers of white delivery vans who were in the vicinity of Duke St at approximately 5.30am on the morning of the 1st of November 2018.
