Victim of attempted home burglary launches appeal to catch assailants

Gardaí are searching for three male suspects in a dark grey Audi A4 after they attempted to rob a house with a lone female occupant inside on Thursday night.

The woman inside the house, which is situated in the Mountmellick area, believes the assistants arrived because they knew she would be on her own.

Speaking to LaoisToday, she described the horrifying ordeal that occurred on Thursday night between 7.50pm and 8.10pm.

She said: “My door is very beaten and [they tried to] pry it open. They were at the door for a good ten minutes.

“I locked myself into the bathroom at the time but they must have heard me and bolted.

“The first pane of glass in the window at the front of the house is broken but thankfully they didnt get in.

“It is very suspicious though because they must have known I was on my own. My family were away and my partner was working until 9.30pm. It really was such a scary ordeal.”

She also said that Gardaí pursued the suspects through Emo and Ballybrittas.

“A few people have said there was a Audi in Rosenallis area and Mountmellick the past few days looking odd,” she added.

The woman urged for people to share the message and keep an eye out for a dark grey Audi A4 with three male occupants acting suspiciously.

There are no registration details or further details as of yet.

The car was reportedly to have been seen last along the Kildare/Wicklow border.

People with any information are being asked to contact Portlaoise Garda station on 057 86 74100.
