Five Laois women to represent Leinster in upcoming inter-provincial football tournament

Five ladies footballers from Laois have been selected to represent their county and province in the 2018 inter provincial tournament taking place in Waterford IT this Saturday, November 24.

Four current Laois ladies footballers form part of the 30 strong Leinster panel.

Marie Byrne, Laura Nerney, Erone Fitzpatrick, Caoimhe Simms,
and Eva Galvin are all named in the Leinster side, which also sees an added Laois contingent to the team.

Graiguecullen man and former Laois ladies football manager Kevin Doogue is managing Leinster in the tournament this weekend.

Doogue has a busy time ahead as he was also named as the new Graiguecullen senior men’s football manager this week.

Another Laois native that has a busy time ahead for themselves is Laura Nerney.

Laura plays for the highly successful Foxrock-Cabinteely. The insatiable Dublin side claimed their fourth Leinster title earlier this month and saw off Donaghmoyne of Monaghan to earn a spot in the All-Ireland club final.

Here, they will take on Mournabbey in what will be Fox-Cab’s first All-Ireland Senior Ladies Club football final since 2016.

Being named on the side is also one of the many strings Erone Fitzpatrick can add to her bow.

The Park-Ratheniska footballer recently picked up the Leinster Schools Player of the Year for her hard work with her club, Scoil Chriost Rí and Laois.
