In Pictures: Portlaoise Primary School Town football league finals a huge success

The Portlaoise Primary School Town football league finals took place in O’Moore Park recently.

During the month of November eight schools took part in a 5th and 6th class Town Football League.

These included Holy Family Junior NS, Senior Holy Family NS, Scoil Bhride Knockmay, Gaelscoil, Educate Together, Maryborough NS, Rathenkia NS and Ballyfin NS.

Each school participated in five matches which were played in LOETB Centre of Excellence and the Finals where held in O’ Moore Park.

There were four finals for both Boys and Girls; Cup, Plate 1, Shield and Plate 2 Town League Finals.

This Town League was set up to supplement the GAA PE Programme that is currently running in most of the Schools in the Portlaoise Urban Area.

In addition to this the Town League caters for 5th and 6th class children who did not get the opportunity to play for their school in the County Cumann mBunscol competitions.

We can look forward to 2019 where there are plans in place to run a Hurling/Camogie Town League in January/February and further leagues for 2nd/3rd and 4th class children later in 2019.

Finally, Laois GAA and all the clubs from the Portlaoise Urban area would like to thanks all their National Schools, Teachers and pupils for their support.

Our photographer Julie Anne Miller went along on the day and got these pictures:
