Laois native Kelly appointed Wicklow Ladies manager

The Wicklow Ladies will have a very familiar face on the sidelines in 2019.

James Kelly will be in charge of the side who lost out narrowly to Laois in the Leinster intermediate final this year.

Kelly has a strong association with GAA here having work as a Games Development Officer for the Laois County Board for a number of years.

He has since began working for Laois Sports Partnership but has also managed a number of Ladies teams in Laois.

In 2013, alongside current Laois PRO Pat O’Sullivan, the Ballinakill man led Laois to All-Ireland Minor ‘B’ success.

He previously coached the Park-Ratheniska Ladies and then went on to manage Ballyroan Ladies.

Kelly also enjoyed Leinster championship success with Heywood at U-14 and U-16 level.

A Wicklow LGFA statement read: “Wicklow LGFA County Board are delighted to announce that they have appointed James Kelly as manager of their Intermediate team.

“James, a native of Ballinakill in Laois, will be joined by fellow selectors Emer Miley and Mick Kavanagh while Shay Dunne will lend his considerable talents to the strength and conditioning aspect of the players.

“We welcome James to the Garden County and wish him well.”
