‘Light at the end of tunnel’ fading for family of Laois woman missing 25 years

A Mountmellick man says that his hopes of finding his sister who disappeared from Waterford 25 years ago this week are fading.

Imelda Keenan disappeared from her home on William Street in Waterford City in 1994 – a quarter of a century ago.

Her brother Gerry spoke on Midlands 103 on the anniversary of her disappearance.

The then 22-year old had been studying at the Central Technical Institute.

She was described as five foot three, of thin build, with long brown hair and blue eyes.

At the time of her disappearance, she is believed to have been wearing leopard skin trousers and a denim jacket.

Gerry said: “We’ve been campaigning for the last 25 years and we have went in every direction.

“We even put up some kind of a reward (for information) through Crimecall and Crimestoppers.

“We thought that someone might come forward and give us some information.

“But I think as 25 years have now passed – to rattle someones brains or for someone to come forward and give us some information – it seems the light at the end of the tunnel is going out on us.”
