Portarlington student recognised for excellent Junior Cert results

James Dunne

Just before Christmas, Cistercian College Roscrea celebrated its annual Carol Service in the Monastery Church at Mount St Joseph Abbey.

Afterwards the President of the Past Pupils Union Mr Fergal Keane presented the PPU Gold Medal to James Dunne.

The Portarlington teenager was recognized for an incredible feat.

The medal is presented each year to the student who received the highest results in his Junior Cert.

Congratulations to James and to his family who joined him for the presentation.

His father John is also a past student of the College while his mother Eileen is principal of the primary school in Daingean in Offaly.

James joins a list of Laois lads who have excelled in their studies in Roscrea in recent years.

In 2017, Finbarr Crowley from Emo received the top Leaving Cert results in the school – three years after he did the same at Junior Cert level.

And then last year, Finbarr’s younger brother Liam replicated his brother’s success.
