James Kelly’s Maynooth took the final place in Round 3 of the Sigerson Cup after edging out Queen’s University Belfast this afternoon.

The St Joseph’s defender was named at full back and was part of a Maynooth defence that held their hosts to just eight points over the course of the hour.

Kildare’s Padraig Fogorty was Maynooth’s hero as he kicked the majority of their scores as they sealed a quarter final place.

Stradbally’s Liam Knowles and St Joseph’s Aaron Cooney are also on the Maynooth panel and they will now not play again until February 6.

Elsewhere, there was no such luck for Jake Foster’s IT Tralee as the Portarlington man’s side were beaten by Ulster University.
