Lynch’s Trinity College get Fitzgibbon Cup off to winning start

Chris Lynch was part of the Trinity College team

Chris Lynch’s Trinity College Dublin pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat Garda College as the Fitzgibbon Cup got underway this afternoon.

The Dublin side were six points down at one stage but staged a rally to turn things around.

Portlaoise hurler Lynch started at full back as his side claimed a 1-15 to 0-13 win.

Meanwhile, there was late heartbreak for IT Carlow as they lost out to LIT thanks to two injury time points.

Enda Rowland (Abbeyleix), Ryan Mullaney (Castletown) and Sean Downey (Ballinakill) all started for the IT Carlow side who went down 1-14 to 1-13.

Points from Rowland and Downey helped their side take a one point lead as the game entered injury time.

However, David Dempsey and Diarmuid Byrnes both pointed for LIT in the time that remained to claim a valuable win.

IT Carlow now face Lynch’s Trinity College on Thursday night where anything less than a win will see them eliminated.
