Knockbeg College U-16s have qualified for the South Leinster ‘A’ football final following a big away win over Patrician Newbridge this afternoon.
The side, managed by Stephen Attride and Conor Ronan, will now go forward to face the winners of Clane of Kildare and St Peter’s of Wexford in the decider.
Palatine forward Bryan McMahon bagged a hat-trick while the Arles-Killeen duo of Oisin Byrne and Colin Dunne also scored freely as Knockbeg won with 11 points to spare.
They made a brilliant start to the game as Clonmore’s Oisin Doyle struck for an early goal which was followed by points from Byrne and Dunne.
Newbridge were very competitive in the opening half and came back to level the game by the end of the first quarter.
Knockbeg moved back in front as McMahon scored his first goal of the game but Newbridge hit back with their second goal almost instantly.
Knockbeg ended the half strongly with points from Dunne, Byrne and Fionn Bergin to leave them ahead by 2-5 to 2-2 at the break.
It was all change in the second half though as Knockbeg quickly went about putting the game beyond their opponents.
Oisin Byrne slotted a long rang point before McMahon completed his hat-trick with two goals inside two minutes.
Oisin Byrne and Oisin Doyle struck for further goals to put the result in no doubt with still the final quarter to be played.
And the Laois side continued to score at will with McMahon, Bergin and sub Jesse McEvoy all raising the white flag before the finish.
Newbridge did end the game with a late goal but it made no difference as Knockbeg marched on to the final.
