The Laois senior footballers are in Newry this evening as they take on Down in the opening round of their Allianz Football League Division 3 campaign.
It’s a meeting of a Laois side promoted from Division 4 last year and Down outfit that dropped from Division 2.
But the sides are the joint favourites for promotion and a tight game is expected.
The Laois side named by manager John Sugrue shows seven changes from the team knocked out of last year’s championship by Monaghan – and three league debutants in Sean Byrne and Colm Murphy (both Portarlington) and Adam Campion (St Joseph’s).
There is also a return to the Laois jersey for Portlaoise’s David Seale and Conor Boyle after a spell away and for Port’s Robbie Pigott at centre-back.
Down are under the management of Paddy Tally who is in his first inter-county managerial job after impressive spells in a coaching role with Mickey Harte’s Tyrone and Kevin Walsh’s Galway.
The game throws in at 7pm in Pairc Esler and we’ll be live blogging every minute of the action.
