Today is a busy day on the intercounty scene as two Laois sides are out in action around the county at 2pm.
Laois senior hurlers take on Waterford in round two of division 1B in O’Moore Park. Meanwhile, the Laois ladies footballers face off with Armagh in the opening round of division two of the national league in Emo GAA Grounds.
Eddie Brennan has named the starting 15 to play against to play against Waterford in O’Moore Park this Sunday.
There is one change to the side that faced Galway in Salthill, with Sean Downey going in at wing-back instead of Padraig Delaney.
Other than that, the team lines out as per last weekend’s setup.
Last weekend Waterford cruised to a 27 point demolishing over Offaly and it looks unlikely that the Deise will take the foot off the pedal this weekend with Paraic Fanning at the helm.
There are many changes on this year’s Laois Ladies team compared to last year’s.
New manager David Gibson has taken charge of a much-changed Laois side to the one that won the Leinster intermediate final last year.
Five of the six backs who started that day are all no longer involved. Sisters Alison and Jenny McEvoy and their Sarsfields clubmate Ciara Hughes are all gone from the full back line while centre-back Mags McEvoy has retired.
However there are a number of new and returning faces on this year’s panel.
Portlaoise woman Ellen Healy returns to the fold as does Ballyroan’s Clodagh Dunne.
Gibson stated that he was particularly impressed by the young players coming up through the ranks, including; Andrea Moran (Ballyroan), Alannah Havill (St Conleth’s) and Niamh O’Rourke (Ballyfin).
