Laois intermediate camogie side suffer first league defeat to Kilkenny

The new fixtures for the hurling championships are here

Laois 0-7 Kilkenny 2-9
Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division 2 Group 3

It was possibly the toughest task Laois camogie could have faced in this league opener as they took on Kilkenny in Callan today.

Frees kept the O’Moore women in the game as young Kirsten Keenan stepped up to the mark with four points from placed balls.

This was aided by a long-range free from Camross woman Sarah-Anne Fitzgerald while Donnagh Mortimer and Rebecca Williams earned Laois’s two points from play.

It was two late goals that Kilkenny scored towards the end of the game proved the difference as Kilkenny got the win.

There were some fine performances on the Laois team in defeat with Aisling Burke, Laura Dunne, Olga Parkinson and Kirsten Keenan particularly excelling.

Laois will now turn their attentions to next weekend as they are on the road again against Derry in Derry next weekend, Sunday 24 February.

Following this, they face Dublin and Antrim at home venues.
